Something about the amount of choices
A best-selling gaming console of its time was released in Europe in 1986. It was called Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) or just plain simply Nintendo. This white piece of plastic thing had a slot where you could put in carts or cartridges which where 5.25 inches tall (13.3cm) and 4.75 inches wide (12cm). I used to play Nintendo in the earlier years, as many other lucky people around the world. The remarkable thing was the choices , yes, the choices you had when you wanted to play the different games available at the time. You had basically pretty much only one simple choice if you wanted to play a game; that was, to go out and buy the pretty simple cute game!

And so I did, over and over again, spending my money and never regretting it. And the interesting thing is that I actually never regretted buying a single Nintendo 8-bit game ever. At that time, you could not play ´the demo” and say, “I like this!” or “What a shitty game!” The only thing I was interested in was the feeling I was getting from the images on the back package of the game while I was in he store deciding if I would buy the game or not.
Today this magic is gone, well for me it is. Because of the amount of choices we have available? I do not know, but somehow it feels that the choices are to blame. I read this great article Easier Is Better Than Better on Smashingmagazine and it makes me think…
